Toyota Motor Manufacturing Turkiye is set to restart production as of May 11

Since 21 March, Toyota Motor Manufacturing Turkiye’s production had been suspended because of the measures to keep its employee’s health and to support occupational and social health in line with the recommendations of both the Ministry of Health and global authorities.

TMMT will first welcome its employees on 11 May and use the initial day as an induction to the new protocols put in place to ensure their safety and good understanding of the new work environment. Production will then start at reduced volume on May 12 before gradually ramping up in the following days and weeks.

The decision to restart is based on various considerations but first priority is to ensure safety by implementing thorough and detailed hygiene and social distancing recommendations.

A long and detailed list of sanitary measures has been put in place, in line with authorities’ recommendations. These have been validated by management and employee representative bodies and will be continuously audited, reviewed and improved as required.

Measures include; keeping the recommended social distance, mandatory use of masks, detailed plant preparation for new normal, exhaustive simulations of new measures, increased cleaning frequency and disinfecting processes of shared areas, adaptation of work schedules and strict application of 3C’s Rule ( No Close contact, No Crowd, No closed area ), extra hygiene appliacations in the company buses and cafeteria.

During the production suspension period, Toyota Motor Manufacturing Turkiye maintained onsite project work such as maintenance activities, equipment upgrade and future project preparations.

Also TMMT actively contributed to society to supporting surrounding communities’ health services.  TMMT has contributed to society building on its manufacturing skills and expertise. TMMT not only donated 30,000 face masks and 7,500 face covers to local hospitals in Sakarya and Istanbul, but TMMT members also produced in-house 13 medical testing booths and donated them to hospitals. These booths allow medical staff to test people for the coronavirus without coming into contact with them. A donation to enable the purchase of two ventilators by a Sakarya hospital was also made.

Toshihiko Kudo, President and CEO of Toyota Motor Manufacturing Turkiye said “due to the coronavirus pandemic, we decided to stop and wait during the last 8 weeks because of our employees’ health is always our main priority. Most important thing is to restart in a safe way. We took  necessary measures for our employees. I hope difficult days is getting over and hopefully we can contribute to a normalization.”
