Toyota Turkiye started to mass production of Verso 1.6 D-4D first Toyota equipped with BMW Group-sourced diesel engine

As a first step of mid- to-long-term collaboration on next-generation environmentally-friendly technologies with BMW Group, clean diesel range offered on Toyota Verso. TMMT started to the mass production of Verso with diesel engine on 8 January 2014.

Two years after entering into a contract with the BMW Group to source diesel engines, production of the Verso 1.6 D-4D equipped with a BMW engine has been started by TMMT on 8 of January 2014. The arrival of the 112 DIN hp 1.6 D-4D widens the engine-range available on Verso, which now comprises of 4 diesel and 2 petrol engines.

A seamless match between the engine and the Toyota gearbox and vehicle electronics was ensured, while safeguarding the comfort and dynamic performance of the original Verso.
Several components were newly developed, ranging from engine mounts over a dual mass flywheel, a new gearbox housing and gearing and a Stop-and-Start system to further improve efficiency and reduce emissions. 

To the line-off event, TME President D.Leroy, BMW top management and TMMT CEO O.Özer and plant employees were attended.

In his speech, D.Leroy said “only a bit more than 2 years ago that our historic cooperation started. 200 people from Toyota and BMW got involved in this project. The teams worked very efficiently together in a team spirit. I thank to all TMMT members for their adaptation and high quality performance. The successful completion of this cooperation proves that our decision to work together with BMW was the right one”.

TMMT President & CEO Orhan Özer has also made a speech and said “Today we’re celebrating the first step of Toyota and BMW collaboration. As TMMT, we are proud of being selected as a first manufacturing base for this challenging project. Today is one of the important days for TMMT’s history as well, another milestone achievement of our endless efforts to contribute to the global success of Toyota. We strongly believe that, alongside with the new Corolla, the new Verso with diesel engine will play a major role in terms of meeting our customers expectation resulting in sales growth both in Turkey and in other markets. We’ll continue to do our best to meet Toyota’s strong confidence in TMMT. The production of the new diesel engine Verso will officially start with today’s line-off ceremony. As TMMT, we commit to manufacture and deliver highest quality vehicles to our customers, as we did until today”.

Production of the Verso 1.6 D-4D will commence in January 2014 at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Turkiye in Adapazari, Turkiye – the sole production facility of the Verso range which also produces the latest generation Toyota Corolla.
